The results have been announced and we’re delighted to share that Carmelita has won a total of three Silver Medals at this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards and International Wine Competition.
Carmelita Cabernet Franc 2019 has been awarded a Silver Medal (90 points) from the International Wine Challenge (IWC) and a further Silver Medal (91 points) at the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) 2023.
Carmelita Malbec 2019 received a Silver Medal (92 points) from the Decanter World Wine Awards and was commended at the International Wine Competition 2023.
In its 39th year, IWC is accepted as the world’s most rigorous, impartial and influential annual wine competition.
Each IWC medal-winning wine is tasted on at least three separate occasions by a minimum of 2 panels of judges tasting together and then 2 co-chairs to verify the panel results. The judging team includes experts and influencers from the international wine industry, commercial decision makers, buyers and Masters of Wine. Well known judges include Tim Atkin MW, Oz Clarke, Dr Jamie Goode and Helen McGinn.
The IWC tasting notes for Carmelita Cabernet Franc 2019 state, ‘Lovely loganberry and blackberry fruit. Fragrant and perfumed. Fresh bright fruit, fine tannins with a good length.’
Decanter World Wine Awards is ‘assuredly the world’s largest wine competition’. The three-stage judging process is recognised by leading wine experts internationally for its credibility. The judges for 2023 included 236 wine experts including 53 Masters of Wine and 16 Master Sommeliers from 30 nations.
The DWWA judges thought Carmelita Cabernet Franc 2019 had an ‘Open nose with leafy layers over soft fruit aromas. Very concentrated, with firm tannins and a long savoury finish.’
The DWWA tasting notes for Carmelita Malbec 2019 said: ‘Smoky nose with aromas of plummy fruit, clove, sandal and crushed rocks. Mouthwatering acidity on the palate, lovely and concentrated.’
We knew our 2019 vintages were outstanding and it’s lovely to have confirmation from the experts. These most recent awards bring our international medal tally to 27 since 2012.
