We always breathe a sigh of relief when our grapes are safely in. This year was no different, especially with the unusual weather conditions in the run up to harvest. There were more wet and cooler days than usual in April which impacted the timing of the harvest. Fortunately there were also welcome warm, sunny days towards the end of the month which helped the grapes obtain good sugar content and ripeness.
This year, as last year, we've harvested Malbec and Cabernet Franc and both wines are showing strong natural acidity, low pH and excellent tannin structure. The Malbec is displaying delicious aromas of plums and cherries and the Cabernet Franc wonderful aromas of blackberries.
Our wines are now in tank undergoing maceration and fermentation before being transferred to barrel in a few weeks time. We can't wait to get back out to Argentina and have a first taste of the 2013 vintage for ourselves!
